Add a bit of color to your blog – 3 tips
A picture speaks a thousand words! However useful your blog content is, it can still benefit from a nice image to make your blog post shinier. Check out these tips to learn how to make your blog posts more attractive by adding images to them.

1. Have at least one image
Add an image to each blog post that you write. It works best if you place it at the top of the post, or right after the first paragraph. This will come in handy when you share the blog post in your Linkedin updates or groups, as the graphic will be nicely displayed as a thumbnail.
A great resource for images is Creative Commons: they have different categories you can choose from. You can also do a Google search and you will find lots of resources.
2. Use relevant images
Look for less common images to add a personal touch. With so many people having access to the same online resources, it is hard to stand out, but not impossible. For good examples of relevant images, see Joanna Ciolek’s blog.
3. Consider a slideshow
Write your entire blog post as a slideshare presentation. This requires more time to create, but it is very powerful. My favorite one is Michelle Schaeffer’s blog post Top 10 Reasons I Haven’t Commented on Your Blog (Yet).
Now your turn! Do you have any tips that I have missed? Please share them by leaving a comment.

Yes, I completely agree with you Helen, I quickly lose my patience and I’m almost not able to read a post without images, it’s like I cannot find a focal point

Glad you found it useful, Rob! I went and took a peek at your latest blog post, it really makes a difference with an image in it
I make sure that I always put an image in any blog post, makes it easier to read. I am also more tempted to read posts that have images included.

I love this article. I think color and pictures spice up a whole page. Though I admit to being guilty of sometimes posting without an image. I really do like posts better when there’s an image or video or something to liven it up. I will certainly be focusing more on doing this for every post.

So glad that you liked it, Emily! Once you set having an image as (one of) the goals of your post, it becomes second nature and it’ll be much easier to do this on a consistent basis. completely agree! excellent suggestions. when i was in college and using livejournal… as a personal journal publicly online for my friends, it was just a stream of thoughts for the day. when i got into blogging, i didn’t even think about photos. but now i can’t imagine reading a blog that isn’t colorful! so i’ve followed suit. i love that blogging has grown my fascination with photography. and writing a mainly-food blog means i always have a subject.

Kristen, are you not lucky that you write about food! There’s always an image that goes with a blog post about food and recipes. Took a peek at your latest pot and it looks delicious! Gotta go get me a snack
