Browser usage and screen resolution trends

12 Comments/ in Design, Web Design / by EosGrafx

Sharing this great infographic with details of the trends in browsers and resolutions between 2008 and 2012. Amazing how much things have changed in only 4 years! While Internet Explorer dominated the browser usage in 2008, being the main browser on about 50% of all screens in the world, things are very different today, when Firefox and Chrome share the top 2 positions.

Why should you care? This information is extremely important to take into account in website design. Depending on the browser used, sometimes the version of it, and also the screen resolution, your website may look very different to the point where some information is not displayed or requires scrolling.

So what would you do? While you cannot have a website that looks perfectly on all browsers, all versions, and all screen resolutions, you need to go with the majority of users out there. Of course, if your website is geared towards specific clients and you do not necessarily want to make it suitable to all visitors, you would specifically design for that target.

At EosGrafx, we ensure that the website that we create for you is tested against mostly used web browsers and screen resolutions and we do our best to work around problems that specific browsers versions might have. All this so that you can have the perfect website up, running, and displaying properly :) For a free, no obligation quote, contact us today!

Your turn!

What do you think? Interesting data? What is your favourite browser? Please share by leaving a comment!

I’ve used FIrefox for a long time but recently it seems to be getting very buggy and I am using Chrome more and more.

I actually use Firefox the most!
Data such as this is very important indeed for who intends or already works in the Webdesign bussiness in order to understand better how to facilitate usage of a website.

Good point, Astrid. As a web design business, we need to be aware of these trends and design the websites accordingly. Thanks for taking the time to comment and hope to see you again on the blog!
