Please, let me comment on your blog! – part 1
I’ve had this blog idea for a while in my ideas bucket. Just today I stumbled over Michelle Schaeffer’s blog post Please, let me share your blog, and I got inspired to write my post too.
You might not be getting comments on your blog, because:
1. Your blog is not in service.
I got a comment on my blog and went to the reader’s blog to check it out and post a comment there, too. To my surprise, it said “Comments are disabled”. I looked around to see if they had a Facebook or Twitter account in sight so I can drop them a line, but nothing. They had lots of useful information, but I guess they were not encouraging conversation.
2. Your line is always busy.
I really liked a blog post and I had some meaningful things to say, but after writing up the comment and clicking to submit, nothing happened. I clicked a few times to no avail. I finally copied and stored my nice meaningful comment to post another time, but will I ever remember to do it?
3. You never returned my message.
On other blogs, I managed to submit the comment, but I never heard back. If I was following that blog, I would see that my comment never got posted, or never received a reply. Don’t get me wrong, I know people get very busy, but replying to a comment on your blog is still the right thing to do. It can be within a day, a week, a month, or a year
Your turn!
What prevents you from posting comments on blogs? Please share by leaving a comment.
Update: Since this post was published, I wrote a sequel post that you can read at Please, let me comment on your blog! – part 2.

Nice post! thanks for sharing knowledge
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the tips. As a new blogger, I will take all the tips I can and I am glad to see I am doing these you pointed out. I also try to post comments to blogs whenever I can but have run into comments not being enabled too.

Great post! I often avoiding posting on blogs merely because of the hassle. Sometimes you have to login, sometimes you have to have an ID, sometimes you submit it and nothing happens. And sometimes you just have to provide too much information, and it becomes tedious. Wish posting on blogs was much more simple!

Completely agree with you, Leah! There too much concern for spammers that the nice and honest person who wants to leave a comment has to jump through the hoops to be able to say what they want to say. I wonder how many people give up altogether when it’s too difficult to leave a comment. I know I do!

My biggest pet peeve is …. when the author’s name says ‘admin’ or there is no author name. That is because if you want to encourage conversation and engagement from your audience, they tend to do so when they can relate to a person.
Not that I am picking on you EosGrafx, but I really would like to see your name and smiling profile pic on your blog
We have been connected for a very long time now. I enjoy your tweets and all the great things you share on Facebook as well.
The tips you offer here are great and really hit home that everyone should check out their blog/sites to be sure they are working properly. I just discovered from a fellow twitter follower that my posts when shared on Twitter are including the tags. So I am looking into that right now….. that can be frustrating for people that don’t want to take the time to correct that sort of thing.
Always enjoy your information – thanks again!

Thanks so much for the feedback, Lynn! I am not a solopreneur (running eosgrafx with my dh) and so I don’t want to give the impression that eosgrafx is just me
We started the blog almost as an experiment over a year ago and it has grown so much while I’ve enjoyed writing it. Both dh and I are contributing with ideas, though I am the main author. I will have to find a solution to express that and I actually have to thank you about articulating it in words

Now going over to your blog to check the Twitter tagging that you were mentioning

Hello, I like the idea you are putting forward here. It means people have to become involved in the online conversation on the web. This is what it is all about, spreading the word. It is called networking.
You said it well.
Thanks,
Peter Mead
